COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Rocky Mountain Vibes (32-30) jumped back into the win column against the Grand Junction Jackalopes (28-35) by overcoming a four-run deficit to snatch a 10-6 victory. That moves the Vibes to 10-5 in the second half of the season, tied up with Missoula and Oakland for the top spot in the league. It also ends the nine-game homestand with a 6-3 line.
An 18-minute rain delay postponed the first pitch before lightning put the game on pause for another 45 after the top of the first inning.
After trailing 5-1 in the second frame, the Vibes responded with two runs before four innings of silence. Bookending the contest with two sets of back-to-back frames with runs, Rocky Mountain pulled off the comeback. The highest amount of production arrived in the marathon 10-batter seventh inning that plated six runs and gave the Vibes the lead.
Right fielder Hank Himrich tagged the first multi-hit game of his young professional career with an RBI triple in the second and a two-run double to take the lead in the seventh inning. Center fielder Carter Booth broke a 4-for-29 slump by slugging three hits including his team-best sixth triple of the year.
On the mound, left-hander Tom Peltier's second start featured his longest outing of five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Right-hander Wyatt Tucker relieved him with 2.2 scoreless and no-hit frames allowing just a pair of walks while striking out three. Closer Hunter Bryan zoomed through the last 1.1 innings without allowing a baserunner and striking out one for his team-best ninth save.
The series flips to Grand Junction for the last three games. LHP Nick Powers is scheduled to start for Rocky Mountain against LHP Evan Massie. First pitch on the other side of Colorado is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
