COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Rocky Mountain Vibes (6-1) finally let one slip, falling to the Northern Colorado Owlz (1-6) for the first loss of the season in a 7-1 ballgame. NoCo starter Johan Castillo dealt six no-hit innings before designated hitter Dane Tofteland broke through with a knock.
Tofteland and catcher Austin Chouinard marked the only hits for Rocky Mountain, but the Springs saw a ray of sunshine on the rainy day from the newest addition, Doug Olcese.
The left-handed reliever was picked up on Saturday morning, and he dealt three innings of two-hit baseball with a couple of strikeouts in his Pioneer League debut. The 28-year old New Jersey-native's last season of pro play came in 2022, most recently playing for a barnstorming team, the Black Sox, who matched up with the Vibes during the pre-season.
The second game of the Sunday double-header was called after one inning on account of rain and dense fog.
