Walkoff Longball Caps Back-and-Forth Meeting Between the Pioneer League’s Top Two Teams
The Rocky Mountain Vibes (11-1) launched their way to victory over the Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers (9-4) on an Austin Chouinard walkoff home run to seal the 9-8 finish on Tuesday night.
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Rocky Mountain Vibes (11-1) launched their way to victory over the Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers (9-4) on an Austin Chouinard walkoff home run to seal the 9-8 finish on Tuesday night.
The Vibes' catcher led off the ninth inning and closed it quickly, rounding out a 2-for-5 game with one RBI.
That victory lap succeeded a marathon five-run eighth inning to take a momentary lead before an error helped the High Wheelers across home for the tying run.
With that unearned run in the ninth and the walkoff blast from his catcher, right-handed closer Trey Morrill nabs his first win of 2025, allowing two hits in that frame. Before him, Caden Kratz surrendered a pair of runs on two hits with a strikeout in the eighth inning. Left-hander Gabe White anchored the sixth and seventh frames, letting up one run on two hits with four walks and a strikeout. Starter Nick Powers finishes with his first no-decision of the season, dealing five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.
The No. 1 seed in the Pioneer League remains the group in Colorado Springs. The High Wheelers fall back into third place thanks to the titanic 18-1 Idaho Falls win in Grand Junction. Rocky Mountain and Yuba-Sutter rematch at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night with right-hander Brandon McPherson set to start for the visitors and lefty Riley Phillips matching him for the hometown crew.
